As a PADI Vintage Equipment Diver you will have the unique opportunity to learn how our sport started and how do safely dive with this vintage gear. The course allows you to actually dive with this gear and discover the excitement of the original underwater pioneers!
All modern diving equipment has its roots in vintage diving equipment. Even the modern single hose regulators can trace their history to double hose regulators, BCDs were preceded by horse collars and
before that backpacks, the modern K valves and DIN valves have their roots in J valves and R valves.
Even though diving equipment has evolved, the skills to SCUBA dive safely have pretty much remained
the same.
Modern single hose and the short lived modern double hose regulators all can trace their history back to a double hose regulator.
The original Aqua-Lung was invented by Emile Gagnan and Jacques-Yves Cousteau in 1943. The first commercial regulators for the public were available in the early 1950s.
These first regulators will be available in the Vintage Equipment Diver Course
Just think . . .No more annoying bubbles in your face (I never new how annoying the bubbles were until I started diving with vintage diving equipment), and you do look incredibly cool.
The PADI Vintage Equipment Diver Course provides the foundation you’ll want if you’re interested in learning more about the pioneering spirit and history of our sport.
