SWIMMING FAQ Frequently asked questions about our swim lessons.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY CHILD TO LEARN TO SWIM?

There is no set time for a child to learn to swim. Each child learns at their own pace, and it is dependent upon their learning pace, and your goals for your child.

CAN I REGISTER OVER THE PHONE?

We do not allow for registration over the phone, partly because we need your signature on the Release.

HOW DO I REGISTER FOR A CLASS?

Registration can be done in person as always OR use our ONLINE Registration. Online is best for the parents who are certain that their child is in the right class. If you have any questions about which class your child should be in - then please call us or come register at the shop and we will steer you in the right direction. Please note that all spots are first come first serve, and we do not hold spots.

CAN I CHANGE MY CHILD’S CLASS ONCE I REGISTER?

You may cancel/change your child’s class for no fee, outside of 14 days from the start of class. Inside 14 days, or if the class is full regardless of time, you will be charged a $50 fee. Registration fee is also non-refundable.

IF MY CHILD MISSES A LESSON, CAN I SCHEDULE A MAKE-UP?

No. Because our lessons have ratios we must maintain, we cannot add an addition child to a class. Our program is based on building addition skills on top of a strong foundation – your child will have other opportunities to learn the missed skills.

IS THERE A REGISTRATION FEE?

There is an ANNUAL registration fee for all swimmers. The fee is $35 for an individual child, or $50 for families.

WHAT TIME ARE THE CLASSES OFFERED?

Please visit our calendar page to see the times listed for your child’s age group.

WHEN DO I PAY FOR LESSONS?

You pay for lessons upfront on the day you register your child.

IF MY CLASS FALLS ON A HOLIDAY (I.E. JULY 4TH, MEMORIAL DAY, LABOR DAY ETC.) DO WE STILL SWIM?

Yes. We do still swim on these days.

HOW LONG ARE THE LESSONS?

Each lesson is 45 minutes in length.

DOES MY CHILD NEED GOGGLES?

We strongly recommend goggles for children learning to swim, and during stroke development. Goggles will often increase a child’s comfort in the water.

WHAT TIME SHOULD I ARRIVE FOR MY CLASS?

Please arrive 15 minutes early for your class, as we do start our classes right on time! This time also allows your child to get to better know our pool and staff and make them feel comfortable.

WHAT DO I DO IF I HAVE A CONCERN OR QUESTION ABOUT SWIM CLASS?

Please do not expect an instructor to speak to you during or between their classes. During this time their main focus is on the children. You may leave a note for an instructor at the front desk, or if you need to speak to someone immediately you may request a manager by calling the front desk.. 850.837.0955

WHAT DOES MY CHILD NEED FOR THE PARENT & TOT PROGRAM?

For the Parent and Tot program, all non-potty trained children must wear a swim diaper AND a swim diaper cover. There are fabric covers that go over a child’s diaper – they can be found inside Emerald Coast Scuba in the swimming section.

WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE OF THE WATER IN THE POOL?

The temperature of the pool is 89* – we keep it this temperature so the children have a warm and comfortable environment to develop their skills in.

WHAT AGE SHOULD I START MY CHILD IN SWIMMING LESSONS?

The sooner the better. We start lessons for our Parent & Tot program at 6months of age.

MY CHILD HAS SPECIAL NEEDS, MEDICAL CONDITIONS, ALLERGIES ETC. HOW CAN I NOTIFY THE STAFF?

On the registration form there is a section for these notes. You may list any medical conditions here. Information will be kept private and only management, your child’s instructor will be notified of the information provided in your note. Our Management will contact you if we have any questions or concerns or if we need additional information or a note from your child’s pediatrician.

HOW DOES WEATHER AFFECT MY CHILD’S LESSON?
Rain will not keep us from swimming. A light to mild rain will generally pass quickly and we will swim through it. Lightning and Thunder will keep us out of the pool. However the weather in your area may be different from ours, so please sign up for our weather alerts that are sent directly to your phone. If you recieve no notification of cancelation then we are swimming. Below are the sign ups for weather alerts.
